The County Government of Uasin Gishu on November 3, 2022, received drugs worth Ksh67 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).

Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim received the consignment which he later flagged off to be supplied to all the county health facilities.

Uasin Gishu has 138 health facilities managed by the devolved unit.

Speaking during the flagging off of the drugs, the county boss said in line with his administration’s policy, all drugs will be delivered directly to the health facilities instead of being stored at the Central Stores.

Drugs from Kemsa will be supplied to all the 138 facilities, no storage,” Chelilim said.

The latest consignment of the drugs is expected to last for the next three months. Another supply is expected in January 2023.

We will go to the farthest length to ensure we have a healthy county. We will push ourselves to the ground to enhance services,” governor Chelilim pledged.

Digital inventory management

On his part, Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot asked that the drugs be used efficiently.

He also challenged health facilities to keep clear records of the utilisation of the drugs.

We need to ensure that all these drugs that we have used resources to purchase are used efficiently with proper records so that it serves the people,” Eng Barorot said.

He further revealed that as part of the new administration’s efforts to enhance records keeping, they have presented a supplementary budget to the County Assembly to allocate resources that will facilitate putting up a system to manage inventory online.

But before the digital inventory management, Eng Barorot says all the relevant officials should “keep the records even if manual for now.”
