County to Collect Public Views on Construction of Modern Market in Eldoret

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has invited members of the public to submit their views on plans to set up a modern market in Eldoret town.

A notice from the County Executive Committee for Trade indicates that the public views will be collected through public participation forums that will be held between February 15 and 17, 2023.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu wishes to notify its citizens that subject to the provisions of Article 201 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, that it will be collecting views from the general public towards the construction of an Iconic modern market in the CBD,” read part of the notice.

The CECM for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, cooperatives and Enterprise Development therefore, invites all residents for public participation meetings to be held from 15th -17th February 2023 starting at 10 am as attached,” it added.

Further, according to a schedule in the public notice, the forums will be held in each of the 6 sub-counties as well as at the closed Champions Retail Market in Eldoret town.

February 15, 2023

  • Kesses – Cheptiret Centre
  • Ainabkoi – Burnt Forest Market

February 16, 2023

  • Soy – Ziwa Market
  • Moiben – Kimumu/Marura Market

February 17, 2023

  • Turbo – Cheramei Market
  • Kapseret – Kapseret Market
  • CBD – The Champions Retail Market

Meanwhile, each of the meetings are scheduled to begin at 10.00 am.

The public participation forum also comes just weeks after Lands Cabinet Secretary Zacharia Mwangi visited Eldoret Town. It is during the visit that he announced the start of the process of building the modern market.

The market is also expected to be jointly funded by the National Government and the county government at a cost of Ksh6 billion.
