Elgeyo Marakwet: New Chief Officers Sworn In

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich on Tuesday witnessed the swearing-in of 15 Chief officers, completing the last phase of constituting his government.

The appointees took an oath of office in a ceremony presided over by Iten Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa.

The Governor, whose appointments comprised youthful individuals, pledged to ensure that by the end of his tour of duty in Elgeyo Marakwet, he will have mentored as many young people as possible.

He also challenged the new officials to be diligent and professional as he specifically cautioned the Chief Officers to be magnanimous to the public and shun conflict.

Warning to contractors

Addressing the gathering, the governor warned contractors that his government will not tolerate any incomplete projects beyond prescribed timelines.

He also extended a grace period to the contractors to ensure they completed all past projects by the end of June this year, failure to which all the projects will be terminated without further notice.

Dr Sally Kimosop, the acting Chairperson County Public Service Board challenged the incoming COs that their positions were not comfort zones since a huge responsibility was bestowed upon them.

Deputy Governor Prof Grace Cheserek and a host of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were in attendance led by House leader of majority Hon. Stephen Cheruiyot.

The MCAs cautioned the Chief Officers that the Assembly will be keen on its oversight role warning that MCAs will not compromise on any wrongdoing.

Cheruiyot singled out payment for incomplete projects as one of the ills perpetrated by past officeholders, warning the incoming team to desist from such malpractices.
