Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has appealed to the Members of the County Assembly to shelf impeachment motions against four members of his Cabinet.
Impeachment motions have been filed against the Trans Nzoia County Secretary Truphosa Amere, Lands County Executive Committee Member Janerose Mutama and her Sports, Gender Tourism and Culture counterpart Stanley Kirui.
Health’s Sam Ojwang’ is the latest to join the list.
Speaking during the launch of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, Natembeya said the three CECMs deserve a second chance.
“While you exercise your quasi-judicial powers, let justice be the shield and defender. Let us look at these people not just as officers but as people who have people who are looking up to them and everybody in life deserves a second chance,” the county boss urged.
Trans Nzoia CECM facing disciplinary action
Natembeya revealed that disciplinary action has been taken against one of the cabinet members. The County CEO said if the three survive the MCA’s axe, he is likely to send them packing after the expiry of their contracts in August 2025.
“Some of the things that have been accused of and have been brought to my attention are criminal in nature. As we speak, one of the officers has been surcharged and he is not getting his salary,” Natembeya said.
The County boss defended Amere arguing that there is nothing the County Secretary does without the knowledge and approval of the Governor.
“The County Secretary is my right-hand person and there is absolutely nothing she does without my approval. So, maybe we have to bite the bullet and accuse me of those things,” he stated.
Mutama and Kirui have since the tabling of the motions secured two conservatory orders from Kitale High Court as well as the Employment and Labour Relations Court stopping the debate of the motion.
MCAs accuse the three of abuse of office, a gross violation of the Constitution and other Laws, and incompetence among other grounds.
On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, a notice of motion for the impeachment of Health County Executive Committee Member Sam Ojwang’ was tabled by Sitatunga ward representative Simon Murei.
