Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has cautioned Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati against involving Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i and Joe Mucheru in election preparedness meetings.
Kositany says preparations for the upcoming poll lie squarely within the mandate of IEBC and Matiang’i as well as Mucheru has nothing to do with it.
Speaking in Ziwa, the vocal MP who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto named the two CS’s as busybodies out to advance their own political interests.
“We want to tell the chairman of IEBC Wafula Chebukati, to take charge of electoral matters and stop inviting busybodies to come to IEBC meetings of planning elections,” Kositany said.
“Matiang’i has no knowledge on how to run elections, CS Mucheru’s job is to ensure that the transmission network is there and that is where his job ends. This issue of inviting the two for election meetings we don’t want to see going forward,” he added
Matiangi’i and Mucheru have come under fire from political leaders allied to the DP following their open declaration that they support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader’s 2022 presidential bid.
Kositany says the two should not be anywhere near the planning of the elections – challenging them to resign and focus their energies on politics.
“If elections go wrong we will not look for Matiang’I or Mucheru, we will look for Chebukati because he is the IEBC chairman,” said the MP who is eyeing the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat.
