Uasin Gishu Engineers Burn Midnight Oil In Bid To Improve Road Infrastructure

A group of engineers attached to the Uasin Gishu Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works sacrificed their time during the festivities, as they moved to complete a bigger percentage of roads earmarked for completion.

The devolved unit launched a new program to open new roads and improve the state of the existing ones before the onset of rains in 2023.

In his manifesto, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii outlined the crucial contributions roads make to economic development and growth.

Governor Chelilim during the launch of the grading program on 14th November 2022 at Kapseret Centre in Kapseret/Simat Ward.

According to the county boss, the development has both socio and economic benefits for the locals.

The roads are of vital importance to make the agricultural county grow and develop.

One team of engineers has been working on the grading of Kokwatai Estate, Kapseret/Simat ward in Kapseret Sub-County and another on the road improvement works at the state-of-the-art Kimumu -Bahati fresh produce wholesale market in Eldoret.

At the market, several culverts have been installed since the program began. Other teams continue to work in all wards.

Roads County Executive Committee Member Eng. Joseph Lagat thanked the engineers who sacrificed to work on the projects during the holiday season.

He said the department is committed to providing the required infrastructure across the county for better accessibility to markets and enhancing the road network.

Eng. Lagat further said having street lights, proper drainage systems and well-maintained roads that help provide a conducive environment for trade.

  1. Good works. Although the engineers need to rework the drainage system. A lot of space is going to open water drainage when they can build modern underground passways.
