Uasin Gishu County has witnessed remarkable progress in its roads and transport initiatives with the introduction of a fully equipped mobile workshop.
The modern complete mobile workshop was unveiled by the Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works primarily for maintenance of over 200 county fleet while in the field.
The newly launched mobile workshop is equipped with a generator, power welding machine, mini machine, toolbox, chain block, drilling machine, grinding machine, grease gun, air compressor machine, and hand drilling machine.
According to Roads Chief Officer, Eng Abraham Kiptalam, this comprehensive range of tools ensures that the mechanics have everything they need to swiftly and efficiently handle any repair or maintenance task that arises at the grassroots level where there is no electricity.
“When we have a motor breakdown in the field we don’t have to carry the machine to the yard to be fixed, the mobile unit goes around and does the maintenance of the machines,” Eng. Kiptalam said.
Rescue machines
The CO added that the vehicle is equipped with all machines required and flood lights that enable the mechanics to do the operations at night and rescue machines that have gotten faulty in the field.
“We have come up with a service chatter which we are looking forward to launching and making it public so that the public can rate us against our service chatter,” Eng. Kiptalam noted.
Eng Kiptalam also said with the mobile workshop readily available, the county has experienced a significant reduction in both downtime costs and the time taken to fix machinery at worksites.
Officer in charge of Maintenance at the Uasin Gishu County Yard, Eng. Abraham Misoi, said the innovation is not only helping save the county valuable time and resources but has also showcased their ability to adapt to modern practices in the realm of road, transport and public works.
He added that the department has been witnessing a high number of visitors from other counties who come for benchmarking.
Viola Sang, a resident of Ngeria Ward, Kapseret Sub County said the mobile workshop has enabled the county to tackle challenges on-site, minimizing delays and ensuring the uninterrupted implementation of ongoing projects in their area.
She praised Governor Jonathan Bii for the foresight and dedication to advancing the county’s infrastructure which she said have truly paid off with the introduction of the mobile workshop.
